Mike Sanders Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mike Charles Sanders, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Born on September 29, 1953, in Sledge, Mississippi, Mike made his mark on the world as an esteemed attorney and a cherished member of his community. He departed this life on September 16, 2025, in Woodruff, South Carolina following a six year fight against metastatic prostate cancer.
Mike dedicated his professional life to the practice of law, specializing as a civil defense attorney, where his commitment to justice was unparalleled. He earned his Juris Doctorate from the LSU Law School, a testament to his hard work and determination, and became known for his sharp intellect and tireless advocacy for his clients. Also a man of deep faith, Mike taught Sunday School for many years in the churches where he and his family worshiped.
Outside of the courtroom, Mike was a man of many passions. He found joy in the great outdoors, spending countless hours hunting and playing golf. An author at heart, he had a way with words that captivated many, and he cherished every opportunity to share stories and experiences with friends and loved ones. Most importantly, Mike had an innate ability to connect with people, never meeting a stranger. His warm smile and open heart created bonds that will forever be remembered.
Family was everything to Mike. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Susan Craig Sanders; his devoted children, Jim Sanders (Portia), Rachel Sanders Hulisz (Alex), Joanna Boutwell (John), and Will Sanders (Mari); and his cherished grandchildren, Ben, Emma, Vivian, Ethan, and Coral. He will also be missed by his sister, Linda Furr (Rev. Jimmy Furr) and his beloved sisters-in-law, Becky Sanders and Carolyn Sanders, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Claudine Sanders, as well as two brothers, Johnny L. Sanders, and James E. Sanders.
A private family gathering will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025.
Memorials may be made to the Discovery Institute, Seattle, WA, an organization that was dear to Mike. Also, since September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, memorial contributions may be made to any organization supporting cancer research.
