On Monday, October 20, 2025, we said goodbye to our beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, Michael Dean Shamblin, after a courageous battle with cancer. The personal heroism demonstrated throughout his final days will continue to inspire and encourage others and create a legacy. As we remember Michael, let's carry forward the memories of his devotion to family, unyielding perseverance, and fearless spirit of adventure.
Michael will be forever cherished in the hearts of his wife, Sarah, and three children, Matt, Ashley, and Tristin; and a sister Phyllis Stapler. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Opal Shamblin and a brother-in-law, Rod Stapler.
Born on May 18, 1959, in Charleston, West Virginia, Michael graduated from Charleston High School in 1977. He furthered his education by receiving a bachelor's degree in political science from Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, WV.
Michael was a passionate, caring man - with a zest for life, a spirit for adventure and a special place in his heart for those he loved. He lived life to its fullest and savored each precious moment. Michael left his imprint on the world, making it a better place for all of us, through the friendships he cherished and the lives he touched.
In business, Michael was inquisitive and ready to learn and grow, always looking ahead towards his next professional opportunity. Throughout his career in supply chain management, he made his mark with several big box companies, including Nestlé, Sara Lee, Home Depot, and Best Buy, and ended up moving his young family a total of 34 times to succeed.
Those closest to Michael knew of his passion for football. He played offensive line during his high school and college years and was a committed fan of the Green Bay Packers and the UGA Bulldogs-always ready to cheer them on! This was a passion shared with his son Matt and the two enjoyed attending games together.
Michael led a fulfilling life, not just as a devoted husband to Sarah, but also as a loving and supportive father to his children, Matt, Ashley, and Tristin. He encouraged his children to do their best in everything in life and pursue their passions, whether they be athletic, creative, or academic in nature.
Michael's family will receive friends and celebrate his life on November 9, 2025, from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown, 639 N. Main St., Greenville, SC 29601.
