Maurice Jerome D'Hoore, lovingly known as "Maury", passed away on January 24, 2026, at the age of 86. He was born on July 12, 1939, in
Mishawaka, Indiana, to the late Cyriel and Maria DeSchemphelaere D'Hoore.
Maury was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He married the love of his life, Marian Irene Kubiak, on February 11, 1967, at Christ the King Church in Roseland, Indiana. Their love story began on one rainy day at the University of Notre Dame, when Maury-caught without an umbrella-was offered shelter by a kind secretary named Marian. That simple act of kindness grew into a marriage of 58 years.
Maury was educated at St. Bavo School through eighth grade and graduated from Mishawaka High School. He proudly served his country in the Army through the National Guard. He went on to attend Purdue University, earning a bachelor's degree, and later pursued graduate studies in business.
Throughout his life, Maury was a hardworking and versatile professional. His career included work at West End Bakery, American Tool and Die, Uniroyal, Bock, Dodge, Reliance Electric, and Rockwell Automation. He retired in his early sixties after many years of dedicated service.
Maury lived in
Mishawaka, Indiana, until 1983, when he and his family relocated to
Simpsonville, South Carolina, where he resided until his passing.
He enjoyed an active and full life. As a young man, he was a Boy Scout, altar server at St. Bavo Catholic Church, and an avid softball player. Over the years, he found joy in woodworking, golfing, bowling, gardening, and square dancing. He was an active member of both the Simpsonville and Mauldin Senior Center. He was a faithful member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church.
Maury had a passion for financial wisdom and loved sharing practical advice. He often spoke about the importance of saving, avoiding debt, building an emergency fund, and letting money work for you. His favorite books included The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Clason, Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert T. Kiyosaki, and The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey, which he generously shared with his family. He lived by the mottos, "Gee isn't life great!" and "Here's to your health, wealth, and happiness!"
Maury is preceded in death by his brothers, Marcel and Theophil D'Hoore.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Marian; his children, Mike D'Hoore (Lisa) and Linda Depken (Craig, II); and his cherished grandchildren, Rachel Conley (Wilson), Campbell, Cate, and Craig Depken III.
Maury will be remembered for his steady presence, practical wisdom, strong work ethic, and deep love for his family.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church followed by Inurnment in the Church Columbarium.
