Mary Gray Obituary

Mary Gray, beloved wife of Furman Gray III. (Trey), passed away on April 16, 2025, in her lifelong home of Greenville, South Carolina. She was the daughter of Dr. Basil Manly IV and Sarah Gillispie Manly.
Mary dedicated her life to caring for others, most notably serving a decade alongside Dr. Eric Troutman, where her passion for nursing truly flourished during her forty year career.
An ardent lover of music across all genres, Mary found joy in long rides through the mountains, where she embraced the serenity of nature. As a person of Christian faith, she also welcomed and respected various religious beliefs and theologies. Her kindness and free spirit touched the lives of everyone who knew her. Mary Gray will be lovingly remembered for her compassionate heart and unwavering commitment to serving others.
In addition to her husband, Mary leaves a host of family and friends to cherish her memory including her step-daughters, Mackenzie Martin (Colin) and Meredith Gray of the home; step-sons, Taylor Mounce and Dustin Mounce; grandson, Davis Martin; sisters, Sarah Cornish and Jean McDowell (Michael); brother, Basil Manly, V; cousin (who was like a sister), Sallie Burnett; four nieces, Katherine Cornish, Sarah Mannear (William), Lindsay Janiec (Michael), and Meredith McDowell; step-mother, Genevieve Manly; father and mother-in-law, Furman "Kip" Gray, II and Cheryl Gray; sister-in-law, Ashley Johnson (Mike); and close friend, Kevin Gray.
A visitation will be held Thursday, April 24, 2025 from 2:30 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown followed by the Memorial Service at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel.
