Mary Bak Obituary

Mary Margaret Bak, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on June 26, 1951, in Nashville, Kansas, she was a daughter of the late Wilfred and Carletta Bock Hageman. Mary graduated from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Wichita, Kansas. Following her career as a registered nurse, Mary was a stay-at-home mom who was active in her children's activities and could often be found volunteering at the school. She embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, strength of spirit, and an unending generosity that could be seen in her care for her family and friends. As a founding member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, Mary was deeply embedded in her community, sharing her faith and love with others. She cherished the connections she made within the church, finding strength and solace in her spiritual family. Mary enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid gardener, often expressing her love for flowers through her vibrant and blooming garden, a reflection of her nurturing spirit. Her home was not just a place of comfort but a sanctuary of beauty, which she lovingly tended throughout the years. Mary leaves behind her beloved husband, John Bak, with whom she shared 52 wonderful years of marriage, as well as her son, Jason Bak (Leslie); her daughter, Jennifer Gonzales (Manuel); her cherished grandchildren, Joshua and Jayce; and her siblings, Patricia Beebe (Scott), Joseph Hageman (Shirley), Irene Arensdorf (Mark), Loretta Clouse (Peter), Nancy Dodge (Lial), Larry Hageman (Barbara), Betty Smith (Garry), Jerry Hageman (Laura) and Donald Hageman (Jacqelyn) and many nieces and nephews. Each of them carries a piece of her generous heart and vibrant spirit. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 16, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, with inurnment following in the Columbarium Garden. In these moments of remembrance, we honor a woman who was full of love, grace, and compassion. Mary Margaret Bak will be deeply missed but never forgotten, as her legacy will continue to bloom in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity organization of your choice. Mary and John Bak blessed us with their friendship for over 27 years. We met them as neighbors, and even after we moved to a different part of town, we'd make a point of having each other over. We cherished these visits and are grateful for the memories we made together. Mary was an inspired baker, and she'd surprise us with one of her delicious creative desserts. (She shared the recipes, and we still enjoy them.) She gave us plants, and it makes us happy to see them thriving in our garden. Simply put, Mary was unfailingly kind and generous. We consider ourselves privileged to have known her, and we will miss her terribly.

As Pope Francis once said, death is not the end of everything. It is the beginning of something that will never end: ETERNAL LIFE.
