Marvin Painter Obituary

Marvin Rodney Painter, 74, of Greenville died Friday, October 17, 2025. Born in Winchester, TN, he was the son of the late Auburn and Hazel Farris Painter. Marvin was a graduate of Tullahoma High School Class of 1969 in Tullahoma, TN. He went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree in Education from Middle Tennessee State University and Master's Degree in Special Education from Memphis State University. Marvin was a dedicated special education teacher for 33 years, enriching the lives of students at Berea High School and Enoree Career Center. Marvin married his high school sweetheart, Teresa Womack, and they were married for 51 years. He was known for his patience and kindness, but he was best known for his baking. He loved sharing his cooking with others. People would line up at the covered dish dinners to get a sampling of whatever Marvin brought! He could always be counted on to help others. In addition to his wife, Teresa Painter, Marvin is survived by son, Matthew Painter (Soohang Lee); daughter, Erin Hiller (Keith); a proud "Papa" to three grandchildren, Reagan Hiller (Simon Baumgartner), Luke Hiller, and Lucien Lee Painter; sister-in-law, Kathryn Painter; and many additional brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, students, and friends. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents. His mother, Hazel, passed away when Marvin was a baby, and he was lovingly raised by mother Nancy Ragan Painter. Nancy passed away and Marvin had a wonderful relationship with mother Frances Mitchell Painter. He was also preceded in death by his brother, J.D. Painter. Marvin was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
