Marva Caldwell Obituary
May 15, 2025 in Prisma Health Greer Memorial Hospital.
A native of Spartanburg County, Marva was a daughter of the late Jay and Sallie Mae
Cannon. She was a member of Greater Hopewell Baptist Church.
Educated in the public schools of Spartanburg County, SC, Marva graduated from
Lincoln High School in Taylors, SC, Class of 1964. She furthered her education at
Morris College in Sumter, SC before moving to Chicago, IL where she worked as a
chef. After retiring she returned to SC in 2009.
Along with her parents, Marva was preceded in death by her siblings, Roscoe Ellis,
James Haygood, and Jerleen Cannon Nesbitt Jones.
Left to cherish fond and loving memories are her son, Harold (Julia) Caldwell of
Bellwood, IL; sister, Dorothy Ballenger of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Darius
Caldwell of Clarksville, TN; Jasnique Webb of Houston, TX; Angela Caldwell of
Chicago, IL; Alex Caldwell of Bellwood, IL; great-grandchild, London McGinnis of
Houston, TX; a special niece Deborah Cannon; a special nephew Johnny (Jennifer)
Nesbitt both of Greer, SC; a host of nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at Greater Hopewell Baptist Church in
Startex, SC on Friday, May 23, 2025 at 11AM. Burial will follow in Maple Creek
Baptist Church Cemetery in Greer, SC.
The family is being cared for by The Gilmore Mortuary-Greer.
