Marilyn van Pinxten Obituary
Marilyn Alma van Pinxten, 87, beloved wife of 51 years of the late Adrianus "Jos" Johannes van Pinxten, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 30, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Born in Toronto, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Reta Brock Peters.
Marilyn was a woman of strong and unwavering faith who lived her life with grace, kindness, and devotion to others.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, and friend, who dedicated her life to caring for her family, always putting others before herself. Marilyn worked as a hairdresser before becoming a homemaker, and enjoyed doing hair for family and friends in her home for the years to come. She was a wonderful homemaker, as well as a talented cook and baker, known for the warmth she brought into her home.
Despite life's hardships, she remained optimistic and faithful, inspiring those around her with her strength and gentle spirit. She found joy in traveling, reading, painting, going for walks, riding her bike, listening to music, watching classic films, and most of all, spending cherished time with her family.
Marilyn is survived by son, Ross Thomson; daughters, Amy Libich (David) and Jane van Pinxten; grandchildren, Lexie Mangum, Stephen Mangum, Emily Libich, Claire Libich, Benjamin Libich, and Charlotte Libich; brother, Donald Peters; many nieces and nephews and their partners; and best friends, Jean Rivers and Dorothy Britton.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Ernest Peters, Robert Peters, and Ross Peters; great aunt, Alma Peters Bradley; first husband, William Thomson; best friends, Jean Lennox and Cecilia Skilton; and close family friend who introduced Marilyn and Jos, Johanna Oppers.
Marilyn's family would like to extend a very special thank you to the caregivers at Palmettos of Mauldin for the kind and compassionate care they provided to both of their parents over the past several years. They are forever grateful to those who went above and beyond, growing to love their parents as their own.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Southeast, with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Southeast Chapel. Burial will be held in Graceland East Memorial Park.
