Lucy Scales Muller Tiller Obituary

Lucy Scales Muller Tiller, 86, of Greenville died on Monday, November 24, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on January 19, 1939, Lucy was the daughter of the late Katherine Scales and Robert Scales of Greenville. Lucy graduated from Greenville High School and Agnes Scott College. She was married to the late Dr. John C. Muller until his death in 1982. Lucy and John had two children, Mary Katherine Muller and John Crawford Muller, Jr. In 1995, she married Dr. Thomas L. Tiller, to whom she was married for the next 30 years.
Lucy was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir. Music was a great inspiration in her life. She also held a creative talent in flower arrangement and dedicated many hours in her life to arranging flowers for both her church and weddings. Lucy and Tom enjoyed gardening, bird watching, the arts, and traveling. She was involved in the Greenville Savoyards Light Opera Company where she served on the governing board and where she and Tom Tiller first became acquainted. Lucy's greatest accomplishment was the kind love that she exhibited throughout her life which touched her family, friends, and so many in the community.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Dr. Thomas Tiller; her daughter, Katherine Muller; son, John Muller and his wife, Lynn; her grandsons, Crawford Muller, Andrew Muller, James Muller and his wife, Caroline; and by her brother, Bob Scales. Finally, she is survived by her children through marriage, Craig Tiller, Tricia Tiller Johnson and her spouse, James; and her grandchildren, Tiller Johnson and Mack Johnson.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 in the Abbott Gathering Space at First Presbyterian Church in Downtown Greenville. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel.
