Waylon Straube Obituary
Eddyville. Waylon Jacob Straube, 47, of Eddyville, died as a result of a boating accident while fishing on the Des Moines River. He was born April 18, 1978, in Unionville, Missouri, the son of Terry Sparks. He attended School at Putnam County High School in Unionville, Missouri. Waylon was a hard-working dedicated union carpenter for Wietz Construction in Missouri for many years. In 2024, he moved to the Oskaloosa area and went to work at G&S Construction. Waylon loved to fish and camp, most of all he enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, coworkers, and friends. He found peace attending the Cedar Community Church in Cedar, Iowa. He enjoyed cheering for the Iowa State Cyclones and working.
His family includes his five children, Remington (Kelsey Freeburn) Straube of Grinnell, Gracie (Jacob Baker) Straube of Oskaloosa, Emma (Shayla Playle) Straube of Oskaloosa, Ruger Straube of Chariton, and Holly Straube of Illinois; grandchildren, Ensly Smith and two due soon; a sister, Nicole (Brad) Dixson of Chariton; two nephews, C.J. and Brett Dixson; and many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, and his grandmother Louise Sparks.
A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, June 5, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Paul Scanlon officiating. As was Waylon's wish his body has been cremated. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. The family will be at the funeral chapel on Thursday evening from 5:00 until service time at 6:00. Memorials may be made to the family.
