Lee Maxwell Obituary

Lawrence Lee Maxwell, 78, died Thursday, July 17, 2025. Born in Greenville, SC on June 23, 1947, he was the son of the late Earle Wilson and Mary Lenelle Lee Maxwell. He was a graduate of Greenville High School and then Clemson University. After graduation he joined the family business and later opened his own business, Lee Maxwell Roofing. He was married to Marsha for nearly 54 years, and together they raised six daughters and were blessed with sixteen grandchildren. A devoted member of Buncombe Street, he faithfully served on numerous committees, coached basketball, mentored confirmands, and was a familiar, friendly face in the church office every Sunday morning. In addition, his heart for service extended beyond the church as he found great joy in helping others through his volunteer work. He was honored with a partner award for his dedication to Emmanuel's Hammer. A proud Clemson fan, he loved all sports, enjoyed traveling, and cherished time spent with his family most of all. Lee is survived by wife, Marsha Maxwell; daughters, Eleanor Macaulay (Alex), Jennifer Maxwell, Leslie Watt (Eric), Mary Bulla, Leanne Burnett (Dee), and Caroline Maddox (Braxton); grandchildren, Eliza, Lee, Kate, and Julia Macaulay, Ethan, Luke, and Sarah Isett, Anna Claire, Jacob, and Maxwell Watt, Matthew and Lindsey Bulla, Abigail and Edwin Burnett, Marshall and Landon Maddox; brothers, Earle Maxwell and Pinckney Maxwell; and mother-in-law, Dorothy Abbott. Family and friends who are unable to attend the service can view the Livestream by clicking on the "WATCH EVENT" button located in the Services section that will be available the morning of July 21st, 2025. The funeral service will be held Monday, July 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Buncombe Street Methodist Church followed by a visitation from 12:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Burial will be private.
