Karl Nations Obituary

Karl McFarland Nations, Jr., 87, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2025, in Piedmont, South Carolina. Born on July 21, 1937, Karl was a graduate of Bethany College and proudly served in the U.S. Army. He built a successful career as a salesman with Armstrong World Industries for over 35 years and later continued his work with Carolina Belting until his retirement. Karl was a devoted member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Greenville. He brought spiritual comfort to those in need as part of his service in Stephen Ministries. For many years, Karl was a hospital volunteer. A man of many interests, he was an avid reader with a deep appreciation for politics, history, and architecture. He found joy in yardwork, staying active through regular workouts, and spending summers at the beach. His love for travel and literature reflected his scholarly nature and passion for poetry. Known for his wit and thespian spirit, Karl brought humor and insight to those around him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jean Nations; sons, John Karl Nations and David McFarland Nations; David's partner, Darrell Ray Ward; brother, Al Nations and sister-in-law Carol Nations; sister-in-law, Doris Glass; and nephew, Alfred Nations with his wife Erin Nations. Karl was preceded in death by his parents, Karl McFarland Nations Sr. and Alfie Ruth Nations. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025, in the chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown, 639 N. Main St., Greenville, SC 29601. Karl's legacy as a devoted husband and father, a hard-working professional, and a man of intellect and humor will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. So sorry for your loss!
Karl and my Dad, Luther Cranford, were great friends for many years. They met during their careers in the textile industry. Even after retiring they regularly met for coffee or lunch.
Karl was a kind man who always checked in on Daddy. He wrote us the sweetest letter when Daddy passed away. I´m sure he will be missed. Prayers for his family and friends.
