Yesterday, our cousin Julia left her frail earthly body behind and her spirit went to be with the Savior she adored. Her death had been expected for a long time. God graciously gave her family more time with her and she fought so hard to stay here awhile longer for those she loved. What we didn´t exoect was that she would leave this life a little more than a week after her beloved big brother Larry. It was Larry´s death that caught us all by surprise and it grieved Julia so much.

She was such a big part of our summers as kids. She was my mom´s much younger first cousin and closer to my age. She was just a few years older than me and we loved when she came to stay for a few weeks. She adored my mom and became a mother´s helper for my mom who had 5 kids underfoot for the summer. She seemed SO much older and cooler I remember thinking as a child!

My favorite memory of her was when we were sent out in the woods to pick berries with Julia to supervise, as well as pick too. This was a regular occupation during the summer. Maybe because our parents wanted the berries and maybe because they wanted a break frim us! We were not to come home until our buckets were full. Julia, probably deciding the bugs and heat weren´t for her and we could pick on our own, quickly devised a short cut. Putting some well placed weeds in the bottom of her bucket and berries on top, she left us to pick on our own, the house in sight.

When she arrived back home in record time my dad wasn´t fooled. He knew she hadn´t become a champion berry picker over night. When he dug to the bottom of her bucket and pulled out the weeds, she exclaimed "oh my that must have fell in there!"

Julia came for her final visit in the last weeks of both my mom and dad´s life, to say her goodbyes and show her love. I´m glad I took the time last summer to visit her and do the same.

This is a picture I took of mom and the cousins a few years back when everyone was younger and healthier. I´m so glad I captured the moment! Three faces are now missing from that picture.

The hardest part of growing older is losing the people you love. I´m so glad this isn´t the end for us. I will see her, my mom and Larry again in a place of no pain or suffering one day!.
