Joseph Lendway Obituary

Joseph K. Lendway Jr. Joseph (Joe/Joey) K. Lendway, Jr. (81), of Woodruff, South Carolina passed away on September 27, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born on December 9, 1943, to Joseph K. Lendway, Sr. and Marion (Reynolds) Lendway, Joe was raised in Burlington, VT, where his lifelong love for the outdoors began. His childhood was spent fishing in local streams, hunting in the woods, and learning the rhythms of the natural world. He never truly left that path. For all who knew him, Joe was most at home in the woods, especially during the autumn deer hunting season. He cherished his time in the tree stand, but he cherished the camaraderie with his hunting buddies even more. An avid sports fan, he particularly enjoyed watching New England sports though also rooted for Clemson and his local Woodruff High School team. Joe attended Rice Memorial High School, in Burlington, Vermont and is a graduate of Wentworth Institute of Technology, in Boston, MA. Joe spent his career working as an engineering draftsman for General Electric in Burlington, VT; Fitchburg MA; and Greenville, SC. He was the primary inventor on numerous U.S. government patents, a proud achievement for designing components for gas turbines and military aircraft. He served his country honorably in the Army National Guard. His duty and commitment to service were defining aspects of his life and character. A devoted follower of Christ, Joe found solace and strength in his faith. He delighted in the fellowship and many dear friendships he had within his church community. Joseph K. Lendway, Jr., is predeceased by his wife, Barbara (Josewitz) Lendway. He is survived by his beloved family, who will forever cherish his memory. His daughter, Michelle Lendway, of Townsend, MA and son, Ronald Lendway and wife, Jennifer Lendway, of Woodruff, SC. Granddaughter's, Madalyn Lane (husband Tyler) of Woodruff, SC; and Olivia Lendway of Hendersonville, NC. His beautiful great-grandchildren, Sophia Lane and Tyler Lane, Jr. He is survived by his siblings, Carol Coltran of Bowie, MD, Patricia Couture of Williston, VT, Steve Michaels (wife Christine) of Trout Creek, MT, Bob Lendway (wife Debbie) of Gorham, ME, Mark Lendway of South Portland, ME, he is preceded in death by his brother Kevin Lendway of Johnson, VT (wife Becky) and also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his loyal canine companion, Abby, who was always by his side. A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joseph Lendway, Jr.'s honor to the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Trust Fund, to help preserve the wild places he loved so much.
