John Walter Egan III, died Thursday, April 29, 2025, following a brief stay at the Richard Campbell VA Home as he was battling dementia. A native of
Greenville, SC, he was a son of the late John (Jack) Walter Egan Jr. and Demetria (Tula) Phillis Egan. After graduating from Eastside High School in 1974, John joined the US Navy, serving four years with the Seabees. He then attended Greenville Tech, Lander, and USC Upstate. John became a paralegal for Ogletree Law Firm and later finished his career as a Commercial Realtor with Langston Black.
Early on, John developed a passion in Tae Kwon Do, studying under Master Billy Hong and continued his Martial Arts instruction from Okinawa, Japan to Dallas, Texas under Master Yates; finally earning his Fourth Degree Black Belt. Another passion of John's was competing in Triathlons. He represented The Cure for Leukemia Organization in Dallas, Texas completing courses by swimming a mile, biking 25 miles and then running 6.2 miles per event.
He was baptized at St. George Greek Orthodox Church and raised in the Greek community and attended St. Mary's Catholic school as a child. He is survived by his son, John (Johnny) Walter Egan IV (Dara) of Dallas, Texas; sister Regina Elaine Harris (Bob) of Frisco, Texas; brother, Constantine (Stan) Clifton Egan (Jules) of Greer, SC, step-brother Robin Hughes (Beth) of Sturgis, South Dakota; and uncle Constantine (Tikie) Sotiros Christophillis (Catherine); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Friday May 9, 2025, at St. George Greek Orthodox Church at 11:00 a.m. officiated by The Rev. Fr. Tom Pistolis, with visitation prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow the service at 1:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, S.C. 29609.
