John Boyette Obituary

John Vernon Boyette Jr., 81, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2025. Born in Lyman, SC, he was known for his integrity, kindness, and love of family.

A James F. Byrnes High School graduate, John earned a Civil Engineering degree from Clemson University in 1965, excelling in academics, sports, and as a Clemson football Team Co-Captain and All-ACC player.

John enjoyed a distinguished engineering career, serving as Chairman/CEO of Piedmont Olsen Hensley Inc. and President of Arcadis US Inc. He later returned to Clemson as Director of Land and Capital Asset Stewardship, earning the title of Emeritus Director and induction into the Golden Tiger Society. His community service included roles with the Consulting Engineers of SC, Greenville Chamber, and Renewable Water Resources Commission.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joyce Mencken Boyette; daughters, Ashley Frederick (Scott) and Angie Sykes (James), and grandchildren, Jason Frederick, Anna Gooding (Sam), Grace Frederick, Wilson Sykes, and Linsey Sykes. He was predeceased by his parents, John Sr. and Eva "Chris" Boyette, and sister, Kay Willingham (Ken).

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown.

Donations in John's memory may be made to Hospice House of Greenville, 1836 West Georgia Road, Simpsonville, SC 29680.
