John Barnette Obituary

John Waddie Barnette, 95, husband of the late Betty Wilson Barnette, passed away October 30, 2025. A native of Greenville County, the son of the late Claude and Clarabell Bramlett Barnette; he was a retired Supervisor with Greenville Machinery, member of Taylors First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was a Shriner; served as a guide for the hospital; worked at Whitey's Auto Auction after retirement; volunteered with Greer Community Ministries and enjoyed square dancing with the Legionaires. Mr. Barnette loved people and loved to serve them. Surviving are his daughter, Frankie Bradley (Ben) of Taylors; daughter-in-law, Betsy Barnette; five grandchildren, Zack Wood, Brooke Barnette, Andy Barnette, Julie Bradley and Allison Aiken; and five great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Wood, Ansley Wood, John Devin Barnette, Jason Cantrell and Addyson Barnette. He was predeceased by his son, John Barnette, sister, Callie Hammond, and special friend, Sally Creamer. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at The Wood Mortuary Chapel, conducted by Rev. Jerry Long. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held 12:30 – 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at The Wood Mortuary. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605 or Greer Community Ministries, PO Box 1373, Greer, SC 29652.
