Cora Lee Updike Martin Schwamm Obituary

Cora Lee Updike Martin Schwamm, 96 of Bedford, passed away Sunday, October 19, 2025 at Sheila Strauss Hospice House. She was born on Tuesday, June 25, 1929 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Edison Updike and Mary Witt Updike. She was also preceded in death by the love of her life, William Schwamm, his son, Thomas "Tommy" Terrell Martin, Jr. & her grandson, Austyn Smith.
She was retired from Rubatex Corporation and was a member of Quaker Baptist Church. She will be remembered for her unwavering faith, being surrounded by her family and her love of gardening.
She is survived by her daughters, Mary Lee Elliott & her children, Tommy, Bobby & Danny Wayne Elliott; Wanda Smith (Stan) & their children, Amanda Miles, Sierra, Kasey, Devon & Mychael Smith; sons, Billy Martin, Sherwood Martin & his children, Johnathan, Brandie, Crystal, Holly, S. W. & Brooklyn; brother, Marvin Updike (Diane); sister, Anna Krantz as well as many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and extended family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Wayne Murphy & Pastor Joey Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in Leftwich Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
