Joe Smith Obituary

Joe Wesley Smith, 80, husband of Betty Jean Stone Smith for 61 years, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 28, 2025. Born August 7, 1945 in Gray Court, he was a son of the late John Wesley Smith and Helen Louise Campbell Smith. Joe loved racing, building engines, and was the owner of Smith Racing. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying camping, hunting, and fishing. Joe was also a Gamecock fan. His greatest joy came from being PaPa to his grand and great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by a daughter, Dianne Beaudin, and a son, Michael Smith (Angie); four grandchildren, Kevin Knight, Amanda Watts (Dedrick), Ashleigh Kellett (Kyle), and Amber Smith (Nick Caswell); five great grandchildren, Jaxon, Carter, Laylah, Kaedyn, and Hollyn; a special niece, Melissa Richards; a brother, Billy Ray Smith; and a sister, Kathy Hurley. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by five brothers, Robert Earl, Claudie, Haskell, Cecil, and Mack Smith, Sr. The family will visit with friends on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Friendship Baptist Church in Gray Court from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will follow at the church beginning at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Joe's honor to Friendship Baptist Church, 3436 Friendship Church Road, Gray Court, SC 29645.
