JoAnn Shook Obituary

JoAnn Bright Shook was born on January 31,1935, in Greenville, SC and sadly passed away at the age of 89, on November 30, 2024, in her Greenville home. JoAnn was a beloved mother, aunt, great aunt, and friend whose generosity and warm heart touched the lives of all who knew her.

Her family has planned to remember and celebrate JoAnn on Friday January 31, 2025, which would have been her 90th birthday.

There will be a remembrance service at Advent United Methodist Church at 12noon that day (2258 Woodruff Road, Simpsonville 29681), followed by a life celebration reception in the nearby Shadow Moss community clubhouse at 12:45 p.m. (1 Hanging Moss Trail, Greenville 29615).

All are welcome to attend either or both events to remember and celebrate JoAnn's life and 90th birthday. In lieu of flowers or other remembrances, her loved ones request a donation to the Greenville Humane Society or local animal shelter in JoAnn's memory.

JoAnn is predeceased by parents Palmer Bright and Nellie McDowell Bright, husband Conrad Mark (Bud) Shook, sibling Bobbie Bright (Francis) Pettit and sister-in-law Barbara Shook (Bobby) Garrison.

JoAnn leaves behind her beloved daughters, Bobbi Shook Brooks and Susan Gennel Shook. JoAnn also leaves behind her much-loved nieces Judy Pettit (Otto) Wilson, Nancy Pettit (McKenzie) Perry, and Lynn Garrison (Mark) Lambrecht, along with many multi-generational nieces and nephews.

A graduate of Parker High School and Winthrop University, throughout her life JoAnn embraced her love for education. JoAnn served many years as a classroom teacher. Most of her years were spent at Washington Center, a school for students with severe disabilities. She obtained her Special Education certification and Master of Education degree from Clemson University, while at Washington Center as a teacher, Program Specialist, and Principal, before retiring in 1997.

As we bid farewell to Jo Ann Bright Shook, we remember her generous spirit, and the love she shared with all who knew her. May her spirit live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind, forever cherished and deeply missed.
