Jimmy Cox Obituary
Jimmy Edward Cox, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on September 6, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on March 23, 1937, in Easley, South Carolina, Jimmy was a testament to the American dream, demonstrating resilience and determination throughout his life.
As the eldest of 13 siblings, Jimmy's early years were steeped in the richness of farm life, a time that instilled in him a strong work ethic and a sense of community. He met his high school sweetheart, Jean, a bond that blossomed into a loving marriage that spanned an incredible 67 years. Together, they traveled the world, creating memories that would last a lifetime.
After honorably serving in the Navy, Jimmy returned home with a newfound sense of purpose. He began his career digging ditches and, through hard work and dedication, rose to become the owner and operator of Walker & Whiteside Electrical Contractors. His journey is a true American success story, highlighting his natural leadership and unwavering commitment to those around him.
Jimmy's contributions extended beyond his business. A dedicated member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church, he was a familiar face at the church, always willing to lend a helping hand with repairs and community needs.
He leaves behind a cherished legacy, including his loving spouse Jean; daughters Kelly Betsill (Benjamin), and Debra Cox Holcombe (Matt); son Jim Cox, II (Charlene); sisters Betty Lou Duncan, Floree Pettit and Susie Cox; and brother Hoke Cox; grandchildren, Caleb Cox (Anna), Elise Wiesner (Rob), Casey Cox, Brett Betsill, Bayley Betsill, Tyler Holcombe (Cory),Cameron Keen (Mark John), Zach Holcombe (Amy) and twelve great-grandchildren who adored him.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, who knew him as a hardworking, hands-on guy with a zest for life, especially when it came to his love of travel and penchant for hot sauce and spicy foods.
Jimmy's commitment to his family and community was unwavering, and he touched the lives of many with his kindness and love. This was clear in his volunteer work with Miracle Hill Ministries the Gideons and North Greenville University. He is remembered as a wonderful father and friend, embodying the spirit of generosity and hard work.
A visitation will take place Wednesday, September 10th, at Mountain Creek Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m., where friends and family will gather to celebrate his remarkable life. After the service there will be a graveside service at Mountain Creek Baptist Church Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
As we say goodbye to Jimmy, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to family and community. His memories will forever remain in our hearts.

Jimmy was preceded in death by parents, Jim Frank and Fanny Cox; siblings, Sarah Ann Stephenson, Wallace Cox, Jack Cox, David Cox, Johnny Mary Floyd, and Frank Cox.
