Jimmie Jackson Obituary
Jimmie Matthew Jackson, age 74, of Greer, SC, passed away on September 15, 2025. He was born on January 5, 1951, in Montgomery, AL, the son of Ernest and Teresa "Cele" Jackson, growing up traveling across the country as part of a military family before eventually setting in Flora, MS for his teenage years. He went to Flora High School, playing both offensive and defensive tackle for the football team as well as the bass drum for the marching band. Decades later, he would brag about how he graduated "Top 10" in his class (of 12 students). It was in Flora where he met his high school sweetheart and future wife Adonis Elaine Elmore. Jimmie and Adonis married on January 14, 1972, beginning a marriage that lasted 53 years. After graduating high school, Jimmie enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, serving four years as a law enforcement specialist with the 91st Security Police Squadron out of Minot, ND. He then served four years with the Mississippi National Guard. After honorable discharge from the military, he worked as a draftsman for Hunt Energy/Placid Oil before returning to school to obtain a bachelor's degree in Business at Mississippi College. He then served the state of Mississippi for over 20 years as an investigator for the Mississippi State Ethics Commission. He ran, alongside his wife, an antique store that eventually became a coin collection business called "Southern Hospitality" that still has an active online store. After retirement, Jimmie and Adonis traveled for weeks at a time across the western US in their camper, visiting various famous sites of the "Wild, Wild West," and eventually settled at an oceanfront condo in Myrtle Beach in 2020. A few years later, they relocated to Greer, SC to be closer to family and live out their dream of having a mini-farm. Jimmie was an avid John Wayne buff, having watched all of his films and collected numerous John Wayne memorabilia over the years. He would regularly have a John Wayne film playing in the background but was never successful in convincing others to join in his enthusiasm. Jimmie will be remembered as a man that lived to serve those around him: his country, his state, his wife, and his children. He was a beacon of stability and warmth, always looking for opportunities to help, to give a word of encouragement, or to provide well-timed fatherly advice. Up until his death, Jimmie never passed up an opportunity to shower his wife with compliments or to brag to others about his children. Everyone knew that Jimmie loved his family (including his four chickens) well. Jimmie is survived by his wife, Adonis Elmore Jackson, his two sons, Christopher and Troy (Mary Lindsey), and his two grandchildren, June and Lewis (who only know him affectionately as "JJ"). He is also survived by his sister, Vicki (Tommy) Edgeworth of Brandon, MS and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial for Jimmie Jackson will be set at a later date.
