Janis Smith Obituary

Janis Gale Smith, 76, of Denver, NC, and formerly of Gaffney, SC, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at Atrium Health Lincoln in Lincolnton, NC. Born on Tuesday, November 16, 1948, she was the daughter of the late James Francis Smith and Nancy Camp Smith Carpenter. Janis was educated in the public school system of Eden, NC, and later obtained an associate's degree. She dedicated many years as a clerk for the social security office in Baltimore, MD. In addition to her parents, Janis is preceded in death by two brothers, Keith Smith, and Freeman Smith; and her stepfather, Calvin Carpenter, Jr. She leaves to cherish fond memories to her sons, Derek (Regina) Smith, and Jason Smith, Sr.; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gerald Smith (Valine Powell-Smith), and Reginald (Tameka) Carpenter; one sister, Terri Smith; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends all of whom will miss her dearly. Arrangements have been entrusted to Community Mortuary, Inc., 102 Marion Avenue, Spartanburg, SC.
