Janet Preston Obituary

Janet Lee (Jackson) Preston, beloved wife of Donald Lane Preston for 61 years, passed away peacefully with family by her side on August 9, 2025, in Greenville, South Carolina. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, Janet was the only child of the late George Lee Jackson and Marie Katherine Basta Jackson. Janet graduated from Ursuline High School and attended Youngstown State University. Known for her style and grace, Janet had impeccable taste in all aspects of life. She was deeply involved in her community, generously volunteering her time with Meals on Wheels and at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Powell, Ohio. Janet enjoyed tennis, exercising, cooking, and took great pride in preparing her mother's cherished Italian recipes. She dedicated her professional career to nursing, working as a Registered Nurse and serving as the Director of Nursing at one of the first Alzheimer's care facilities in Columbus, Ohio, for over a decade. Janet later served as a nurse case manager for Aetna Insurance, where she continued to advocate for compassionate care until she retired. Her greatest joy in life was celebrating the accomplishments of her children, and being "Grandma" to her seven grandchildren. Janet is survived by her loving husband, Donald; her children, Christopher Preston (Carol), David Preston (Stephanie), Michael Preston, and Jennifer Spicer (Gregory); and her grandchildren, Stefane, David, Daniel, Sophie, Michael, Lucy, and Thomas. A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 10700 Liberty Road South, Powell, Ohio 43065. Date and time will be announced once finalized. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America (AFA) or online at alzfdn.org. The family would also like to share their heartfelt gratitude to Three Oaks Hospice in Greenville, SC, for their compassionate care and support of Janet.
