Janet Denton Obituary

Iris "Janet" Denton, 90, wife of the late George Denton, died Friday, May 16, 2025. Born in Pelzer, SC, she was the daughter of the late Byron and Willie Mae Sloan Whitt. Mrs. Denton retired as a Benefits Coordinator from Provident Life & Accident Insurance Company. Before working at Provident Life, she worked as a nurse assistant in several doctors' offices for many years. She had a giant, loving heart, a heartwarming smile, and an unexpected sense of humor. She was considered our "earth angel" and prayed passionately for everyone. Until her illness, she was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Simpsonville, and their choir. She was a former Taylor's First Baptist and Edwards Road Baptist member before moving to Simpsonville in 2013. She is survived by a daughter, Jennifer House; two grandchildren, Kimberly Austin and Meriah Cantrell; one great-grandchild, Mackenzie Fuller; three step-grandchildren, Victoria (Thomas), Jessica and Taylor; step great-grandson, Remington; daughters-in-law, Terri Cantrell and Brenda Risien (Richard); son-in-law, Martin Brown; and sisters-in-law, Linda Whitt and Kay Geurin. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Tucker; her son, Byron Cantrell; as well as her brother, Tom Whitt. The family would like to thank the staff at Family Hospice in Greenville and Lynn Smith, their neighbor and special friend, for their support. A visitation will be held Wednesday, May 21, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:15 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Southeast followed by the funeral service at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel. Burial will be Greenville Memorial Gardens.
