James Hilton Parsons III of
Greenville, SC passed away peacefully at his home on June 19, 2025.
Born February 8, 1949, Jim led an extraordinary and fulfilled life and was loved and admired by family and friends alike. He was the valedictorian at Newberry High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Masters in Business Administration from Clemson University. He was a Registered Professional Engineer and an Army officer, serving eleven years in the US Army Reserves. Jim spent much of his career designing and constructing manufacturing facilities around the world for a number of international engineering firms, including Lockwood Greene and CH2M Hill. He had a private pilot's license and maritime Captain's license. Jim particularly enjoyed hunting and training his hunting dogs, as well as cooking, snow and waterskiing, sky diving, mountain climbing, and many other adventures over the years.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and is survived by his wife of 31 years, Christine Wyss Parsons; daughter,Lindsay Parsons; stepdaughter, Ashley Dunlap (Heyward); grandchildren, George and Claiborne Dunlap; brother, Gary Parsons (Kathy), sister, Lisa Wilson (Jimmy); beloved nieces and nephews, Kenneth Parsons (Liz), Michael Parsons (Julie), Laura Herndon (Zach), Sarah Sanborn (Steve); eight grandnieces and nephews, as well as special friend of the family, Lois Freeman.
Jim was predeceased by his father, James Hilton Parsons, Jr; mother, Gladys Walker Parsons; and his son, James Hilton Parsons, IV.
Jim was a faithful Christian and congregant of St Paul's Anglican Church, 304 E. Camperdown Way, Greenville SC 29601. His memorial service will take place at St. Paul's Anglican Church at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2025, with a reception to follow the service. The family wants to express their gratitude to the dedicated and talented medical team of Duke Medical Center and for the support of the lung transplantee group in Greenville and Hospice of the Upstate. Jim had three extra years of life because someone donated an organ. We encourage everyone to consider giving your organs upon death for someone else to live longer.
