James O'Brien Obituary

James O'Brien was born November 28, 1941, in the Bronx, New York. He passed peacefully at his Greenville, SC, home holding hands with the love of his life, Marian O'Brien, his wife of more than 40 years. Raised Catholic, with a brother who was a priest (Fr. John O'Brien), James was a man of faith and modesty. He never gossiped, never judged. Instead, he expressed himself through generosity that touched countless charities. He served his country in the U.S. Army, was always there for his friends and family, and was unflagging in his support of the Mets, his beloved baseball team. James was truly a man of quiet strength. In recent years, he endured serious health struggles but transcended them with characteristic grace. A pillar of love and dignity, with a smile that could light up a room, James will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife, Marian; sister, Margaret Cowan; nephews James Cowan and Billy Cowan; nieces Maureen Moriarty, Eileen McCabe, and Theresa McCleary; and his devoted dog, Champ. Services will be private. Friends are encouraged to share their favorite memories of James with the family by clicking on the button labeled "Share A Memory".
