James Norris Obituary
James "Manly" Norris, III, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at the age of 82.
Born on July 26, 1942, in Cateechee, SC, to the late James Norris, II and Pauline McGill, Manly was known for his humble nature and deep love for his family.
He shared a remarkable bond with his high school sweetheart, Gloria Sekerchak Norris, with whom he celebrated 62 wonderful years of marriage this year. Together, they cultivated a family that cherished the unique connections they had, each member holding a special "thing", whether it was a hand signal or phrase, that defined their relationship with him.
Manly dedicated 35 years of his life to the United States Postal Service, retiring as the Postmaster of Mauldin, SC. His commitment to his work and community was matched only by his loyalty to his family. Known for his dry sense of humor, Manly brought laughter and joy to those around him, whether through friendly banter or witty remarks shared during morning walks and talks with neighbors.
A true sports enthusiast, Manly enjoyed golfing and cheering for Clemson football, activities that brought him joy and camaraderie.
In addition to his devoted wife, Manly is survived by his daughters, Karen Padgett (Tim) and Kimberly Lanford (Geoff); grandchildren, Tiffany Ferguson (Jon), Elliott Padgett, and Savannah Lanford; great-grandchildren, Jackson Ferguson and Lyla Kate Ferguson; sister, Gail Goldsmith; and brother, Thomas "Teddy" Norris.
He was preceded in death by his half-sister, Dawn Norris.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation on Saturday, July 12, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at Mauldin First Baptist Church followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Manly will then be laid to rest in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
