James Hairston Obituary

James Haskell Hairston, 96, husband of the late Freida Wooten Hairston, passed away September 14, 2025. A native of Greenville County, South Carolina, son of the late Albert L. and Margie Smith Hairston, he was a U.S. Army Veteran, a retired employee of Penn National Insurance Company, and a member of Fairview Baptist Church where he served as a life deacon. Surviving are a daughter, Vickie H. McGee (Jim) of Greer; two sons, Jimmy Hairston (Patsy) of Taylors and Greg Hairston (Crystal) of Greer; four grandchildren, Megan McGee, Jessica Hairston, Melissa McGee, and Mary Beth McGee Rush (Philip); three great-grandchildren, Braden Hairston, Levi Rush, and Silas Rush; two step-grandchildren, Heather Kalk (David) and Owen Bruce (Michelle); and five step-great-grandchildren, Audrey Kalk, Gracie Bruce, Kae Bruce, Logan Jordan, and Khloe Miller. He was predeceased by a brother, Harold Hairston, a sister, Helen Pinson, and a granddaughter, Stephanie Hairston. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Fairview Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brad Lynch, Dr. Bob Atwell, and Dr. Gene Lockaby. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. Honorary escort will be the James Crocker Sunday School Class of Fairview Baptist Church. Visitation will be held 12:00-1:15 p.m. Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Fairview Baptist Church. The family is at their respective homes. Memorials may be made to Fairview Baptist Church Foundation for the Future, 1300 Locust Hill Road, Greer, South Carolina 29651 or Greer Community Ministries, P.O.
