James Brown Obituary

Dr. James Allen Brown, 81, husband of Marie Elaine Brown, of Greer, South Carolina, passed away May 23, 2025.
A native of Madera, California, he was a son of the late James Brown and Myrtle Annie Reddock Brown. Dr. Brown was a graduate of Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois, where he received a B.A. and was a departmental assistant. He earned his M.A. in International Affairs at George Washington University, Washington, D.C., in 1967, and also taught at the School of Public And International Affairs there. He was awarded a Ph.D. by the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia. Additionally, he was a graduate instructor at the University of Virginia for one year before joining the Cedar Crest College, Allentown, Pennsylvania, faculty in 1970. Dr. Brown ultimately retired after 30 years of service as Department Head of Distance Education and Continuing Education Summer Sessions at Lehigh University.
Surviving in addition to his wife are, two sons, Jeffery Brown, of Upstate, New York, and Donald Brown (Kristin) of Tampa, Florida; a daughter Catherine Brown Riegel (John) of Reading, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, Caroline Riegel, Maeve Brown, Steven Patrick Brown and loving former daughter-in-law, Adeena Brown.
He was predeceased by his brother, Donald Brown.
The family wishes to extend their special acknowledgement of gratitude to his caregiver, Debra Davis and her husband, Steve.
