Herbert Lindsay Obituary

Herbert Lindsay, Jr., 97, passed away Friday, May 16, 2025. He was born in Greenville on February 27, 1928. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Lindsay and Selma Anderson "Andy" Lindsay; his wife of 70 years, Morn Elizabeth McKoy Lindsay and a brother, Richard James "Jimmy" Lindsay. He is survived by his children, Herbert "Mac" McKoy Lindsay (Karen) of Tucker, GA and Morn Ellen Lindsay Miller (Steve) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; grandchildren, Michael Herbert McQueeney, Patrick McQueeney (Michelle) and their children Reese and Peyton, all from Mt. Pleasant, SC; and Morn Emily McQueeney Walker (Graham) of Summerville, SC. He is also survived by Steve's children, Jeff Miller (Marie) of Park City, Utah and Milynda Miller Poston (Fred) and their children, Ashley, Raelyn, and Carolina, of Arvada, Colorado. He graduated from Greenville Senior High School where he participated in football, basketball, and track. He received a football scholarship to Presbyterian College, where he participated in the ROTC program and graduated in 1949 with a BA degree in History. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army and later received the rank of Major in the Army Reserves. When the Korean Conflict began, he was assigned to Fort Benning, GA as an instructor and tactical officer for the Ranger Department. He attended Airborne School, and became a paratrooper and jumpmaster. While at Fort Benning, he met Morn Elizabeth McKoy of Columbus, GA and they married in 1952. In 1955 he received an honorable discharge from the Army and returned to Greenville. He enrolled in engineering school at Clemson University, graduating with honors with a BS in Civil Engineering. He worked for J.E Sirrine Engineering in Greenville, SC, then Douglas Aircraft in Charlotte, NC where he helped design the Nike Hercules and Nike Zeus missiles. He briefly worked at IBM in Huntsville, Alabama. When E-Systems opened a plant in Greenville, SC, he worked there for 10 years until accepting a job at Martin Marietta in Orlando, FL, where he worked on the LANTIRN project. In 1979 he received a MS in Engineering Management from Florida Institute of Technology. He was employed at Martin Marietta until he retired in 1992 as Engineer manager of Foreign Military Programs. He and Morn moved back to Greenville,SC, and returned to their former church, First Presbyterian, where they were active members. His service will be private. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 200 W. Washington Street, Greenville, SC 29601 or the charity of your choice.
