Helen Murphree Obituary

Helen "Bea" Murphree, 95, wife of the late James "Jimmy" Ray Murphree, was escorted by angels into her Savior's presence on September 26, 2025. Born April 6, 1930, Bea was the daughter of the late Ruth and John Poston. She made her tidy home in Greenville, SC, where her love, steadfast faith and laughter were freely shared with others. Her memory will live on in the lives of countless friends and neighbors who she entertained with her stories and poorly told jokes. Bea was a loving mother who supported her children in everything they did. Her family came first-and it showed. She was always quick with a hug and a kiss, and when the kids came home from school, they were greeted by a mother in overalls, hanging wallpaper, building cabinets, or putting in a drop ceiling in the basement. Bea drew the house plans for her home, was an excellent seamstress, and a talented doll maker. Her home was always meticulously organized and clutter-free, a reflection of her thoughtful and intentional nature. No one who knew Bea could describe her without using the word laughter. She was either causing it or doing it. She found humor in almost everything, which accompanied the mostly worry-free life she led. Instead of worrying, she prayed. In her later years, Bea's sharp wit, warmth and willingness to listen endeared her to many younger friends who cherished her presence and perspective. Bea was quick to tell others about Jesus and encourage them to read their Bible and learn more about His love. Her faith was steadfast and unwavering, and it is with that same faith that her family finds comfort, knowing they will see her again and enjoy that laughter once more. Left to cherish her memory are three of the best children in the world (to hear her tell it), Jill M. Furcron, Jamie M. Miller (David), and Jay Murphree (Karen); and her precious grandchildren, Max, Kira, and McCall Murphree. In addition to her loving husband, Jimmy, of 69 years and her parents, Bea is predeceased in death by her five sisters and her beloved in-laws, Bruce and Fay Murphree. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Northwest Chapel, with the graveside service following at 1:00 p.m. in Graceland Cemetery West. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Washington Avenue Baptist Church, 200 N Washington Ave, Greenville, SC 29611. Friends are encouraged to share their favorite memories of Bea with the family by clicking on the button labeled "Share A Memory".
