Guynell Brown Obituary

Helen Guynell Aiken Brown, age 90, entered into the presence of her Savior on the evening of Wednesday, August 20, 2025. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Guynell lived a life marked by grace, compassion, unwavering faith, and service to others. Born to Columbus Aiken and Texie Elizabeth Stansell Aiken on D Street in Greenville, SC, Guynell was a proud graduate of Woodruff High School, Class of 1953. She was married to the late Jimmie Austin Brown, for seventy-one cherished years, and together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and enduring commitment. Guynell is survived by her son, Ryland Austin Brown; his spouse, Jaylon Lee Addison; and their partner, Marcus Aldrich. She also leaves behind her prized and only grandchild, Andrew Shelton Kallam; and her devoted son-in-law, David Shelton Kallam; one sister, Thelma Aiken Ballew and a brother, Reverend Dr. W. Melvin Aiken. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jimmie, her precious daughter, Loretta Leigh Brown Kallam and a sister, Sarah Ellen Aiken Moree. As a faithful member of Leawood Baptist Church and later, Taylors First Baptist Church, Guynell found joy assisting in the nursery, singing with the Senior Adult Choir, serving on the bereavement committee and volunteering her time at Taylors Free Medical Clinic. Her dedication to others extended beyond her church as she also served her community through her career with Liberty Life Insurance Company, Furman University and finally the U.S. Postal Service, from which she retired in the year 2000 after 19 years of service as Executive Secretary to the Postmaster of Greenville, SC. A funeral service to honor Guynell's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, in the Mausoleum Chapel at Graceland East Memorial Park, located at 2206 Woodruff Road, Simpsonville, SC 29681. The Reverend Jerry Long and Dr. Johannah Myers will officiate and Tony Vinskus will sing, "How Beautiful Heaven Must Be" and "I Will Meet You in the Morning by the Bright Riverside When All Sorrow Drifted Away". We extend our deepest gratitude to the staff and members of Taylors First Baptist Church, the staff and members of Aldersgate UMC, the staff and members of First Baptist Greenville, the staff of Terra Bella Summit and Interim Hospice for their gentle and attentive care during Guynell's last days. The family respectfully requests that flowers be omitted and memorials be made to Taylors Free Medical Clinic, 400 W. Main St., Taylors, SC 29687 https://www.taylorsfmc.org/donate , Lucky Pup Rescue https://www.luckypuprescuesc.com/donate-2/ or to a charity of one's choice. Guynell's warmth, wisdom and unwavering faith will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
