Grace Hannu Obituary

Grace Evelyn Hannu, 65, of Taylors, South Carolina, went home to be with her Lord on August 10, 2025. Grace was born on August 27, 1959, to John "Riku" and Doris Suomi in Winchendon, Massachusetts. She spent her younger years growing up in Ashby, Massachusetts, and she attended North Middlesex Regional School. She lived in a few different places throughout her life after she moved from Ashby, which included West Palm Beach, Florida, Rindge, New Hampshire, and Chassell, Michigan, then she eventually settled down in Greer, South Carolina. Grace was a loving mom, a proud and adoring "Nana" and a wonderful and kind mother-in-law. She loved her Lord, her "daddy" / "Father God", as she would say. She would often cry when talking about her relationship with the Lord, because even through all her struggles in this life she knew that she was known and loved by the King. Grace was a fun-loving, joyful, spunky, spitfire, yet gentle and loving at the same time. She was always a voice for the underdog or anyone she felt was not being treated fairly. She had a big tender heart that loved BIG. She loved to laugh- boy did she love to laugh (usually at her own jokes, which she thought were hilarious!) Anyone who had the privilege of "busting a gut" with her will always remember that loud contagious laugh! She was truly a joy to be around and the life of the party no matter where she was or who she was with. Grace thoroughly enjoyed her time years ago that she spent working in the gift shop at Star of The East Christmas tree farm in Sutton, Massachusetts with her family. She loved sightseeing, organizing things wherever she could, doing laundry (especially when she knew it would help someone out). She loved the White Mountains in New Hampshire, coloring Bible verse pictures, visiting and playing Yahtzee with her friends, antique shopping (she was sure to come home with a ring or two, a random old knickknack, and one time even a purse made of candy wrappers!) She loved life and lived it FULLY. Grace is survived and dearly missed by her best friend, Keith Hannu of Greer, South Carolina; her son, Grant Hannu with wife Christie, of Rindge, New Hampshire; her daughter, Kia Hannu, and her children Javon, Anaiya and Gianna, all of Taylors, South Carolina; her sisters, "Ginny" with husband Paul Anderson, Verna with husband Bob Maki, Leona York, Teresa with husband Gary Palosaari, Doreen Suomi, Andrea with husband Peter Lappi, and Loralee Martin; her brothers, Rod with wife Hannah, and Randy with wife Lona; as well as many Hannu in-laws, countless nieces and nephews and the many "heart friends" that she was so blessed to have. She is predeceased by both of her parents, "Riku" and Doris Suomi, and two of her sisters, Jolene Sohlden and Marilyn Suomi. A Celebration of her Life will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Eastside Apostolic Lutheran Church, 2200 Mays Bridge Road, Greer, South Carolina 29651, conducted by Pastor Thomas Nyblom and Pastor Dan Hoard. Visitation will be held 1:00-3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Eastside Apostolic Lutheran Church. The family is at their respective homes.
