Gloria McQuaid Obituary

Gloria McQuaid, 87, passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2025. She was born on December 7, 1937, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, to the late Harley and Joyce "Dickie" Smith. On June 15, 1957, she united in marriage for life to Gerald J. McQuaid in Denton, Michigan. They had been sweethearts since the 8th grade. Gloria was a medical secretary until her three children arrived and she became a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, known as "Grammy." Gloria was a lifelong Methodist and was active in her various churches. She was a member of PEO, did major entertaining events for her husband as he advanced through his career, and attended all her children's activities. She enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing bridge. She also enjoyed knitting, reading, and completing puzzles. After living in several locations with Jerry's job and traveling the world, they ended up enjoying living at the Cascades in Greenville, South Carolina. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Gerald "Jerry" McQuaid; her children, Karen Garner (Jay), Michael McQuaid (Ann), and Mark McQuaid (Danielle); grandchildren, Jeremy Garner (Sara), Steven McQuaid (Corri), Lissa Whittington (Reynolds) and Sarah Knoedler (Matthew); great-granddaughters, Hennen Garner, Crosby Garner, Coco Garner, Wren Whittington, and Rivers Whittington; and a great-grandson, James McQuaid. A celebration of life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Greenville SPCA, 305 Airport Rd. Greenville, SC 29607, in honor of her two toy schnauzers, Mickey and Minnie. Jerry,
Our sincere sympathy to you and your family. Our remembrance of Gloria is of our days we shared in Sun City. Gloria was one beautiful lady, both inside and out, who was very supportive and most proud of Jerry and her family.

Gloria was a great cook and she gave me a couple of wonderful recipes. Alan and I played golf a couple of times with her and Gerry, and always enjoyed their company. She was a thoughtful, kind person. We are so sorry for your loss
