Glenda Smith Obituary

Glenda Lucille Smith, a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on August 30, 1943, in Greer, SC, Glenda was the eldest of nine siblings, a role that nurtured her caring and generous spirit from a young age. Daughter of the late Jesse Joseph "Joe" Stribling and Gladys Lucille (Southerlin) Stribling Bates, Glenda grew up within the nurturing community of Rutherford Road Baptist Church, where she found Jesus and fostered her deep spiritual roots. Glenda adored her family deeply and dedicated much of her life to both raising her two children and serving as a compassionate Certified Nursing Assistant for the Furman Family. Her love for life was reflected in the simple joys she cherished-cheering the Georgia Bulldogs, watching birds from her front porch, tending to the fresh flowers that brightened her home, and savoring the beauty of the outdoors. Glenda was also known for her exceptional culinary skills, notably her homemade biscuits and cornbread, which brought warmth to many family gatherings. Glenda is survived by her son, Timothy A. Smith; and her daughter, Kimberly D. Cales; three cherished grandchildren, Sonia Camarillo, William Johnson, and William Ivester; five great-grandchildren, James Jesse-Dean Ballard, Noah Ray Garron, Chandler Johnson, Charlotte Johnson, and Cason Johnson; three sisters, Joyce King, Marlene Nelson, and Darlene Robinson; three brothers, Dale Stribling, Ricky Stribling, and Bryan Stribling; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by the love of her life, Medford Allen Smith, in 2020; her brother, Michael Dean Stribling, in 1970; and a sister, Linda Gale Stribling Woody, in 2022. In remembrance of Glenda's beautiful life, her family will receive friends at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown, on Sunday, September 7, 2025, from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m., with a funeral service following at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
