George Harrison Obituary

George Martin "Marty" Harrison, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 21, 2025 at the age of 68. Born on July 3, 1956, in Greenville, South Carolina, to George Alvin and Dorothy Martin Harrison, Marty lived a life marked by deep faith, fierce devotion to his family, and an unwavering commitment to loving others well. Marty graduated from Greenville Senior High School, where he met the love of his life, Lynn Arledge. Their story began in those early days and grew into a 47-year marriage defined by dedication, love, and the beautiful chaos of raising five boys together. He went on to attend Furman University and ultimately earned his degree from the University of South Carolina in 1977. A gifted entrepreneur and CPA, Marty built a successful career with integrity and excellence. Marty was an amazing dad who never missed an opportunity to show up for his boys. He coached his sons tirelessly in sports, supported them in all endeavors, and walked alongside them with unwavering love and presence no matter the circumstance. For 35 years, Marty was a member of Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder, small group leader, and dedicated volunteer. His quiet strength, servant heart, and deep compassion left a lasting mark on the lives of many. He was the kind of person who made others feel seen, safe, and deeply valued. Above all, his life's purpose was to provide community to those who needed it most and show them the love of Jesus. Marty was preceded in death by his parents, George Alvin Harrison and Dorothy Martin Harrison. He is survived by his loving wife, Lynn; his sons, Collins (Brittany), Taylor (Madison), Russell (Zoë), Hunter (Jenna), and Hudson; and eleven precious grandchildren who knew him lovingly as "Pop"-Wright, Charleston, Wilkes, Marshall, Abbott, Bizzy, Noelle, Phoebe, Aida, Gus, and Maclaine. He is also survived by his brothers, Rusty (Pam) Harrison and Scott (Lynn) Harrison, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Those who knew Marty will remember his faith-filled life, his steady presence, and his ability to make everyone feel like family. Though he will be missed beyond measure, his legacy of love, kindness, and Christ-like service lives on in all who knew him. The family will hold visitation on Friday, April 25, 2025 from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel. Marty's Celebration of Life will take place at Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025. On Sunday, April 27, 2025, friends and family are invited to attend a 1:00 p.m. graveside service at Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to Edgewood Ministries or The Apels serving in East Africa, continuing Marty's mission of spreading the love and hope of Jesus. Marty was such a a great friend while we were growing up on Arthur Ave. and Grove Rd. We would shut down Arthur Ave. to play football and baseball. Even though Rusty and Scottie were younger they played, too. I always admired Marty because he was a good athlete, student, and most of all friend. I remember sleepovers at his house outside and watching Shock Theater Friday nights when they moved to Tindal Ave. We were scared out of our minds. I'll miss you Marty!! You were a great friend!! RIP, my friend!!!
