Freddie Davenport Obituary

Freddie Lee Davenport, age 78, husband of Linda Gail (Ballenger) Davenport, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 31, 2025. Born July 6th, 1947, he was the son of James Marvin Davenport and Johnnie Lee (Folds) Davenport.

Freddie is survived by his wife Linda of 56 years and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, half-brothers Laddie Nelson and Bobby Nelson, and half-sister Kay Nelson.

Freddie attended Ensley High School and Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama.

Freddie worked for 28 years at Bama Foods (division of Borden) in Birmingham, where he served as Assistant Traffic Manager, Receiving Warehouse Manager, Materials Scheduler, and Production Scheduler. In 1994, Welch's purchased Bama, and closed the plant in 1996.

Freddie moved to South Carolina in 1996 and found employment with C.F. Sauer Company in Mauldin, where he worked as Production Scheduler for 19 years before retiring in 2015 at the age of 68.

Freddie started attending the Church of God as a youth. In the early 1980's he was at Hueytown Church of God in Alabama where he was a boys club leader, started operating the sound system, and served as the church treasurer for 10 years. After moving to South Carolina, he started attending the Mauldin Church of God where he operated the sound system until February of 2015. He always considered operating the sound system to be his ministry.

Freddie was involved in many activities. As a young person, when he was not in school, he was at the river. After marrying Linda, he started hunting with his father-in-law. Freddie and Linda had a lot of good times together, traveling, camping, and fishing. In 2014 Freddie found a new hobby, radio-controlled aircraft. He was a member of the Western Carolina Radio Club but he always thought the name should be the Western Carolina Radio and Social Club. Freddie and Linda developed many cherished friendships with club members.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at the Mauldin Church of God, 411 East Butler Road, Mauldin, SC on Saturday, January 10th, 2026. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 2PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Freddie's honor to the National Kidney Foundation.

I enjoyed flying with Freddie for years. I also enjoyed his quiet, calm, soft spoken demeanor. I know that he is with our Lord and Savior today because of his personal testimony. One day we will be reunited.

I will truly miss Freddie and chatting with Linda when she came to WCRC Flying club. I remember Freddie as one would always laugh at my corny jokes. He repaired one of my foamie planes to be almost like new. He was always willing to help out. We had several conversations about how to operate a sound system at church. A great friend.

I met Freddy and Linda at Holly Springs, RKRC, when WCRC did not have a field to fly on. As everyone knows, he was a gentleman and a kind soul. I always enjoyed flying RC and talking to him.

Our condolences to Freddie's wife (Linda) and to family and friends. Freddie was a faithful club member, and Linda came with him to the flying field often. He stood behind the club without reservation during our early struggles. Freddie was just a kind and helpful member who enjoyed flying and fellowshipping at the club. He was always willing to reach out and help and make positive suggestions on the club's behalf. Freddie was not afraid to get his hands dirty and worked hard more than he should have. Freddie and Linda made our Flight Stands and handled our sign up and fees and our raffles at our Fly-Ins, and much more. A friend indeed who will be missed this side of Heaven! Well see you on the other side my friend!

To Linda and Freddie's extended family and all of his many friends,

Jane and my sincere condolences and prayers for your comfort that his journey was ended, and he is resting with our Lord in Heaven.

Freddie was my very good friend and a respected co-worker at BAMA Foods / Borden and The C.F. Sauer Company. His knowledge of the plants of both companies proved him to be one of the most trusted sources of information and a valued teammate for any project.

He will truly be missed by all of us who knew him.
