Evelyn Childress Obituary

Bea Childress was called home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

Born on July 17, 1927, to the late Ralph and Grace Willis and grew up in the Dunean Community, Greenville SC. She attended Dunean Elementary and graduated from Parker High School.

Bea had a deep passion for music. She and her late husband Fred sang gospel music together for many years. She was a member of Christ Methodist Church for many years.

Bea retired from Union Carbide after being an expeditor and later the switchboard receptionist.

Bea was widowed in 2010 after 62 cherished years of marriage to Fred. She is survived by their two children, Darrell Benson Childress and Stephen Lamar Childress; two grandchildren, Heather Loree Childress and Darrell Benson Childress Jr.; and she was blessed with two great-grandchildren, Stella Childress and Lucy Childress.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Peggy Childress.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial gifts be made to Crescent Hospice, 839 Buffalo Springs Hwy, Suite D, Buffalo, SC 2932. Attention: Leigh Kingsmore.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest, 6710 White Horse Road, Greenville SC. 29611, followed by a graveside service at 3:00 p.m. at Greenville Memorial Gardens, 7784 Augusta Road, Piedmont, SC 29673.

The family also wishes to express their appreciation to Martha Franks Retirement Community and to Hospice for the love and care shown to her.
