Elisha "Eddie" Sellers, Jr., a proud veteran and devoted family man, passed away on January 6, 2026, at the age of 101. Born on October 20, 1924, in Southport, North Carolina, Elisha led a remarkable life dedicated to service and community.
Elisha proudly served his country in the Coast Guard during World War II and later in the Navy during the Korean War. Following his military service, he enjoyed a distinguished career spanning nearly six decades as a production manager for The News Reporter in Whiteville, North Carolina. His dedication to communication extended beyond his professional life, as he was an avid Ham Radio operator for 80 years, notably receiving commendation for his exceptional communication during Hurricane Hazel in 1954 in Southeastern North Carolina. He was also a long time member of the Civil Air Patrol and achieved the rank of Lt. Colonel.
Beyond his career, Elisha was a passionate gardener who loved cultivating flowers and vegetables, sharing his harvest with family and friends. For most of his adult life, Elisha was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Whiteville, NC, where he served as an Elder and lived out his faith serving that congregation. Elisha's military service was honored in 2015 as he was selected to participate in an Honor Flight to Washington, DC.
Elisha was preceded in death by his parents, Elisha Sellers, Sr. and Lela Sellers Holmes; his wife of 58 years, Mary Sellers; a grandson, Joe Mike Baker; as well as his sister, Mary Lou White, and ten half siblings.
He leaves behind his daughter, Linda Hodges, and son-in-law, Emory Hodges; his son, Mike Baker, and daughter-in-law, Elsie Baker. Elisha will also be missed by his grandchildren, Will Hodges (Dave Robinson), Leslie Grotke (Tim), Mark Hodges, Suzanne Hodges, Grace Hodges, Olivia Hodges, Doug Baker (Jennifer), Sherry Redman (John), and Michael Sanders, as well as numerous great-grandchildren.
The family will hold a visitation at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Southeast, on Sunday, January 11, 2026, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m. Elisha will be laid to rest during a graveside service at the Bethel Original Free Will Baptist Church in Four Oaks, NC, on Monday, January 12, 2026, at 3:00 p.m.
