Edmund Scott Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce Edmund Jackson Scott Sr., passed peacefully at his home into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on September 6, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on December 22, 1941, in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late Bean and Hazel Scott. He graduated from Greenville High School ('59) and The Citadel ('63). Jack as he was fondly known, spent his life making a mark in the world of technology as a talented computer programmer. He brought ingenuity and creativity to the IT industry, and his work left a lasting impact on those who knew him. He began his career as one of the first Assembler programmers in the State of South Carolina, and he ended his career after founding a successful consulting business. In his spare time, he loved to be outdoors either playing Tennis or hiking the Appalachian Trail. He was most proud of completing the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine with his dear friend, Mike Despeaux. His love of the Appalachian Trail also came out in his work with the Sierra Club, where he served in a leadership role for many years. Jack was a devoted father to daughters, English Scott Burlos (Greg) and Katherine Scott Finch (Tom) and son, Edmund Jackson Scott, Jr (Caitlin). He was also a proud grandfather to Andy, Nick, Jake, and Sam Burlos, who brought so much joy into his life. In addition to his children and grandchildren, his memory will be cherished by his sister, May Belle Rauch (Ted), his nephews, Ted (Elaine) and Scott Rauch; and niece, Brearley Khan (Ali). He had zest for life and was quick to tease those he loved. Jack also held a very special place in his heart for ALL his dogs and cats he had throughout his life. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his loving wife, Christina Scott. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 15, 2025 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown chapel with visitation immediately following until 1:00 p.m. Special thanks to Patricia Thomas, Ghazala Khan and Patti Rhinehart as caregivers to Jack for the last several years of his life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy at the link below in Jack's memory. https://appalachiantrail.org/ Friends are encouraged to share their favorite memories of Jack with the family by clicking on the button labeled "Share A Memory."
