Dorothy Davis Obituary

Dorothy "Dot" Grace Davis, born on April 27, 1927, in Shelby, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2025, in Greenville, South Carolina. A daughter of the late James and Beulah Ramsey, Dot lived a life filled with love, family, and cherished moments that will forever be remembered by those she leaves behind. Dot graduated from Mooresboro (NC) High School in 1944, and from the Geyers Business College in Charlotte in 1945. Dot retired after a career in bookkeeping from Fluor Daniel in Greenville, SC. Throughout her life, Dot embraced her passions with enthusiasm. An avid reader and former high school basketball player, she demonstrated her tenacity and love for learning. Her gardening skills were exceptional, and she often spent hours nurturing and cultivating her plants, frequently canning and freezing vegetables to share the fruits of her labor with family and friends. Above all, Dot's love for her family was boundless, and she instilled in them the values of kindness and connection. Dot was a cherished member of Mauldin First Baptist Church, where she deeply valued the bonds she formed in Sunday School and WMU. She treasured the friendships developed through shared faith, fellowship, and involvement in the church's activities. Dot was a dedicated mother to her three children, Katherine Richardson (Jenkins Richardson, Jr.), Mike Davis (Debra Bernier-Davis), and Susan Culbreath (Keith Culbreath). She took immense pride in being a grandmother to her six grandchildren: Leslie Harvie, Taylor Davis, Caitlin Davis, Austin Davis, Ellen Hedrick, and Jenkins Richardson, III. Her family extended further to include eight great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immeasurable joy. Dot is also survived by her dear sister, Nell Brooks. In addition to her late husband, Kenneth Davis, Dot was preceded in death by her siblings, Verna Bostick, Grady Ramsey, Dwight Ramsey, Lucille Curtis, Ray Ramsey, and Erman Ramsey A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Southeast followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel. Entombment will be private. In lieu of flowers, Dot's family asks that memorial contributions be made to McCall Hospice House, 1836 W. Georgia Rd., Simpsonville, SC 29680 in gratitude for the exceptional care she received there.
