"I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7.
Doris has lived a life of love for God, family, friends and fun. God had His hand on her from a young age as her life was spared from a childhood accident with a live power line when they were installing electricity in her neighborhood. Her determination and hard work began as she spent from the ages of six to twelve at
Shriners Children's Hospital. She endured many surgeries, treatments and therapies, learning to walk again and made a full recovery. There she found her love of swimming and, as a teenager, was a lifeguard and expert diver at Woods Lake. She graduated from Parker High School.
She then met the love of her life, George W Puckett, Jr. They were married for 44 years and blessed with 2 sons and mourned the stillborn death of their daughter. They built a life working together as a family at Poinsett Auto Supply, their NAPA Auto Parts business, where many employees and customers became like family. In her free time she enjoyed swimming and boating at Lake Hartwell and working in her yard amongst the flowers.
Always eager to help anyone with her caring heart. Doris helped family, many of her siblings as their health declined, her neighbors and church family. All those that knew her felt her "motherly" love. As her children grew up, she worked with the children's ministry in the "Bible Club" at Agnew Road Baptist Church. Doris and her husband were among the founding members of Unity Baptist Church. And in her later years she found a home at Freedom Baptist Church until her health prevented her attendance. Her loving care will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. on Monday, November 3, 2025, at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel. Doris will be laid to rest in Graceland Cemetery West.
