Donald Doppel Obituary
Donald Walter Doppel, born on November 22, 1933, in Peoria, Illinois, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on September 8, 2025, at the age of 91. He was the beloved son of Walter and Eileen Doppel and lived a life defined by kindness, generosity, and his devotion to the church.
Donald will be remembered as a devoted husband and father. He fostered a nurturing home which created strong family bonds and love. From annual camping trips, supporting and participating with his family in groups and clubs, he helped create lifelong family memories.
After a 53 year marriage to Mary Kay Doppel, Donald celebrated twelve years of marriage to his loving wife, Susan, whom he met at church. Their shared faith and values created a strong foundation for a life filled with joy and companionship.
He earned a bachelor's degree in pharmacy from Ferris State University, after which he proudly served in the Army, followed by a successful career in regulatory affairs within the pharmaceutical industry. After retirement, Donald was a dedicated volunteer with the Kiwanis International and Greer Memorial Hospital giving back to his community in meaningful ways.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; daughter, Ruth Anne Daly (James); sons, Tim Doppel (Alice), Bob Doppel (Jennifer Quinn), and Tom Doppel (Sheryl); along with step-children, Mary Sever (Joe), Matthew Brady (Melissa), Thomas Brady (Diane), Megan Bauman (Michael) and Michael Brady. His grandchildren, Dave, Matt, Chris, Amy, Kate, Colleen, Michael, Emma, Bryan, Andrew, and Jack; step-grandchildren, Amanda, Michael, Elizabeth, Christian, Colin, Ryan, Emily and Katherine; as well as twelve great-grandchildren. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Eileen Doppel, first wife, Mary Kay Doppel and his sister Patricia Meier (Doppel). Each held a special place in his heart, filling his life with laughter and love.
A Memorial Mass to celebrate Donald's extraordinary life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on September 19, 2025, at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church followed by a reception at the church and a private graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Donald's memory to the McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville, SC or a local charity of your choice, continuing his legacy of generosity and service to others. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who knew him.
