Her passion for helping others blossomed as she began her higher education at Pensacola Christian, where she completed both her Bachelors of Arts with a Speech Minor and Masters in Educational Administration. She continued her education at Columbia International University in 2008 with a second Masters in Clinical Counseling.
Denise met Greg in Pensacola, Florida, during her graduate studies. They married on May 23, 1987, in Pensacola, Florida. They raised their family beginning in Spartanburg, SC, and moved throughout the state remodeling and building homes of all shapes and sizes. They built close-knit communities in Columbia, Charleston, and Greenville. Denise was an elementary school teacher for several years before going back to college to become a counselor. She began her private counseling practice in 2008 in Mount Pleasant, SC, and spent many years loving people unconditionally and meeting them where they hurt. She continued counseling after moving to
Duncan, SC, at iTrust Wellness until her retirement in 2023. Denise also served on the Board of Switch, an organization established to end trafficking and exploitation of women in Upstate South Carolina.
Denise was active in choir while in college and continued her love of singing with Greg when they joined their church choir in Charleston. She loved hosting family gatherings, gardening all types of vegetables and flowers, and any shade of blue. Denise showed her love for her children through quilting, making each couple a custom quilt upon marriage. She fulfilled her dream of owning a farm and followed in her mother's footsteps raising long-horn cattle and chickens at their home in
Duncan, SC. She spent the last eight years of her life spoiling her four grandsons every chance she got. She shared many of her hobbies with them, baking, sewing, gardening, and farming together.
