On Friday, March 20, Connie Ruby laid down to take a short nap and awoke in the presence of God.
Born on June 12, 1968, Constance Lynn Compton, Connie grew up in
Warren, Michigan. She graduated from Lamphere High School in 1986, then moved to
Greenville, South Carolina to study Early Childhood Development at Bob Jones University.
In 1990, she started working at The Phoenix Inn where she met Jim Ruby. They married in 1991, and in 1992, welcomed their beautiful daughter, Katelyn. It was Connie's greatest wish to be a mom, and oh what a great mom she was. Katelyn was her world. She remained a stay at home mom, homeschooling Katelyn, for 12 years. She then worked at Walmart for five years.
In 2012, she started working as a med-tech at the Bayberry Retirement Inn in Greer. She took much care, and was very thoughtful to her residents, and many were very fond of her. She continued working there until January 6, 2025, when she fell, and became disabled from working. We visited a few times after that, and the residents were always so happy to see her.
Connie is survived by her husband James "Jim" Ruby, who loves her with all his heart, her loving and talented daughter, Katelyn Nicole Ruby, who she cherished, and was loved right back. She is also survived by her mom, Mary Gates Compton of Oakland, Michigan who loved her very much.
In addition to her family Connie loved children, music, cats, dogs, and pretty much every animal she ever saw. Connie had a love for learning, she was quick witted, very intelligent, and loved to debate everything from politics to Star Trek, Star Wars, and many other subjects.
She was preceded in death by her father, David Compton, and her twin brother, Alan Compton.
I found a token on her keychain that was given to her by one of her residents that reads "Never forget the difference you make". Wow, did she make a difference! She is dearly missed.
A celebration of her life is currently being planned at Hub City Church.
