Charles Hershey Obituary
It is with heavy hearts and wonderful memories that we announce that Charles Edward "Chuck" Hershey, age 75, of Simpsonville, SC passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 21, 2025, and is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior. He was devoted to June Webb Hershey, and their precious Cavalier, Dralyn. He is survived by his loving wife of 13 years, June; and siblings, Linda Willson of Missouri and Roger of Maine. Chuck had five children, Karen, Kevin, Josh, Sara, and Rachel; and 11 grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Charles and Ruth Hershey; and sisters, Susan, Kathy, and Jeannie.
Chuck was born in Bridgeton, NJ and moved to Pitman, NJ when he was a child. He graduated from Pitman High School in 1968 and Drexel University in 1974. He served in the US Army in Vietnam in Special Ops. Chuck started his own construction business when he was in his twenties, Hershey and Son, building homes and doing home renovations in many towns in South Jersey. He lived for many years in Glassboro, NJ and later move back to his hometown of Pitman, where he lived until he reconnected with his childhood friend, June, in 2011. When Chuck and June married in 2012, Chuck moved to Virginia Beach where June lived and worked. After they retired in 2013, they moved briefly to Augusta, GA and then traveled to Murrells Inlet and Pawleys Island, where they were active members of All Saints Church. In 2023, they moved to Simpsonville, SC to live near the mountains where they joined Harvest Anglican Church. The Harvest family was endeared by Chuck and members adored him and his giving heart. His quiet demeanor, quick wit and hospitality will be greatly missed.
While his trade was as a carpenter and general contractor, his passion in later life was baking, mainly for church coffee break on Sunday mornings. It was not unusual for Chuck to make 75 yummy pastries every week to be enjoyed by church members and guests. Not much of a traveler, Chuck was a homebody tinkering around the house coming up with projects mainly created at 3 a.m. He always said he did his best thinking when he could not sleep.
An intimate celebration of his life will be scheduled for a later date.
Those desiring to make a contribution in Chuck's honor, please donate to the building fund at Harvest Anglican Church, 1636 Bethel Rd., Simpsonville, SC 29681.
