Billy Joe Lindsey, 83, devoted husband to the late Ann Lindsey, passed away at home on Saturday, April 12, 2025.
Born in
Greenville, SC, he was one of nine children born to the late Hubert and Dora Lollis Lindsey.
Bill was a man of profound love, deep faith, and unwavering dedication to his family.
Bill first laid eyes on Ann, while she was walking down the sidewalk, near Kash and Karry, while with his sister, Mildred. In that moment, he confidently turned to his sister and said, "That's gonna be my wife." True to his word, he and Ann celebrated 59 wonderful years of marriage until her passing in 2021, a union that embodied love and companionship.
He worked for many years at Hoechst Celanese, where he retired from. He fondly recalled bringing home one of the first plastic two-liter bottles before they graced the store shelves, a testament to his innovative spirit. Known as the "Checkers Champion" at work; he enjoyed friendly competition and camaraderie with anyone that would play the game with him. He often gathered with his friends at Dave's Restaurant where he was know for his warm spirit and engaging conversations. His love of home cooking was well known and he frequently visited the Big Clock in Berea to enjoy the Meat and Three Specials.
An avid fisherman, Bill found joy in casting a line at Edwards Fishing Lake, Lake Greenwood, and many other lakes and rivers. Bill was known for his immaculate yard decorated with gorgeous plants and flowers. He enjoyed watching wrestling. His inventive nature was evident in his resourcefulness; he famously used film as weatherproofing for windows long before it became commonplace.
Bill's love for his family was matched only by his commitment to faith. Though he could be stubborn at times, his heart was always in the right place, putting his family's wellbeing above all else.
After the passing of Ann's close cousin, Dianne McGaha, they raised Dianne's daughter, Stacey, as their own daughter.
His legacy of love and kindness will continue on in the hearts of his daughter, Teresa Ann Wolfe and her husband, David; Stacey Lawrence and her husband, Luke and their children, Jasmine, Isaiah, and AnnElise; siblings, Mildred Smith, Roy, and Robert Lindsey; and numerous other loving family members.
In addition to his parents and wife, Ann, Bill was preceded in death by his siblings, Josephine Coleman, Mable Lindsey, Janie Freeman, Tommy and Raymond Lindsey.
A visitation will be held Friday, April 18, 2025, from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel. The burial will be in Graceland Cemetery West.
