Betty Cook Obituary

Betty Jean Cook

Reidville

Betty Jean Kirkland Cook, 83, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2026 at her home. Born in Fairmont, she was the daughter of the late Carl Odell and Minnie Fincher Kirkland and the wife of the late Benny Albert Cook. Betty worked at Startex Mills for many years, was co-owner and operator of Ben Cook Used Cars and most recently assisted at The Pet Lodge and Spa in Reidville. If you ever met her or shared a conversation with her, you know she was full of life, laughter, and love. She kept us on our toes, always had something to say. She loved being around people and never met a stranger.

Survivors include her children, Janet Free and husband David "Petey", Samuel Booker and wife Janice, and Sharon Gilstrap and husband Mark; a brother, Jim Kirkland and wife Brenda; two grandchildren, Hannah Mercer and husband Jacob, and Ashley Booker; and two great grandchildren, Olivia McCollum and Jade Marcer. She was predeceased by two sisters, Lilly Henderson and Frances Childress; and a brother, Buck Kirkland

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
