Betsy Kahn Obituary
Betsy Orman Kahn, 83, wife of the late H. Martin Kahn, died Wednesday, October 8, 2025.
Born and raised in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Rosalie Orman. Mrs. Kahn was a 1963 graduate of Tufts University, and earned a masters in education from Johns Hopkins University.
Mrs. Kahn held many roles throughout her life - the one she cherished more than any, though, was being "BeBe" to her four granddaughters. Starting her career as a schoolteacher in Baltimore, Mrs. Kahn went on to work as a computer programmer in Atlanta for Southern Railway. After marrying and settling in Greenville, Mr. and Mrs. Kahn later owned and operated two local Precision Tune shops and were active members of the local business community. Mrs. Kahn was also a dedicated member of Congregation Beth Israel, where she volunteered and served in many roles over the years, including President of the Sisterhood and leader of the youth group. Never one to sit idle, Mrs. Kahn was also a consummate volunteer throughout the community, including president of the PTA at her children's schools, longtime clerk of course for the local summer swim program, and volunteer judge for her kids' high school speech and debate program. She will also be remembered as a loyal and devoted friend, providing endless support with her renowned cooking and baking, a compassionate ear and shoulder to lean on, and her famous, extended bear hugs. She drew so many in with her warmth and laughter. Mrs. Kahn was always up for an adventure, did not take life too seriously, and loved spending time with her kids and grandkids at the lake, the mountains and the beach.
Surviving are a son, Joseph M. Kahn and wife, Emily, of Durham, NC, and their daughters, Madelyn and Eliza; a daughter, Jennifer L. Kahn Hutchison and husband, Randy, of Greenville, SC, and their daughters Salie and Julia; a brother, K. Alan Orman and sister-in-law Bobbie, as well as her niece and nephews; and her very special grand-dog, Leo.
The funeral service will be held Friday, October 10, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. graveside Beth Israel Cemetery, 4814 Whitehorse Rd., Greenville, SC 29611.
